What is DropÑRename?

DropÑRename is a fast, simple, and safe file renaming tool. It is best suited for batch rename operations. It renames files and folders by letting you choose whether to Add a string to a filename, Strip a string from a filename or Search for a string in a filename and replace it with another string.
How do I use DropÑRename?
=========================
Using DropÑRename is simple. Drop any file, folder, or mixture of the two onto the DropÑRename icon. You will be presented with a dialog with which you can setup your rename criteria, describing how you want the files renamed. The specific options will be described in greater detail later in this document.
How much does DropÑRename cost?

Nothing, DropÑRename is absolutely free. You are completely free to distribute DropÑRename under the following conditions:
1) You do not charge for DropÑRename (shipping & handling and media costs not
included)
2) You include this Read Me file along with DropÑRename.
What features does DropÑRename have?
====================================
Here is a list of the core features provided by DropÑRename and a description of each feature:
Add String Allows you add a text string to either the beginning or
end of a filename.
Strip String Allows you to search for a text string and remove it
from the filename. You also have the option to search and
remove text strings recursively.
Replace String Allows you to search for a text string and replace it
with another text string. You also have the option to
search and replace text strings recursively.
What other options does DropÑRename offer?

Look Inside Folders Allows you to rename files inside of folders to any
folder depth. Maximum folder depth is limited only
by available memory.
Rename Folders Gives you to the option to rename folders as well as
files.
Refresh Finder Display Gives you the option to force the finder to refresh
it's display when you have renamed a file. This
lets you quickly see the effect of the renaming
operation.
Recursive Allows you to search recursively for a text string.
This gives you the option to search the same filename
more than once to remove all text strings found, not
just the first one.
What does DropÑRename require to run?

DropÑRename should run on any Macintosh running System 7.x.x. It has been tested on a PowerMac 6100/60, Macintosh Quadra 840av, Macintosh IIfx, Macintosh II, and a Macintosh IIsi. It has been tested on the following System's: System 7.1.0, System 7.1.2, System 7.5.0 and System 7.5.1.
What features are you going to add in the future?

Already in the works are a number of new features. Here's a few of them:
1) Preferences support (Thanks to Dennis Hescox for suggesting this!)
2) More AppleEvent/AppleScript support so you can do anything from
AppleScript that you could do directly thru the DropÑRename application.
3) Editable list of common operations and their search/replace strings.
4) Boyer-Moore GREP searches with pre-defined and editable patterns.
5) Better progress indicators to show progress while DropÑRename is building
the file list of files/folders to rename.
6) And More...
What did you use to create DropÑRename?

DropÑRename was written in C using Metrowerks CodeWarrior 4.5 for both the PowerPC and 680x0 parts of the application. Resources were created and edited exclusively with Resorcerer 1.2.4. Icons were created by AP.
